As the title suggests, this is the place to find material on specific subjects.  I am always looking to expand this section and encourage students, faculty, and staff to submit sites for consideration. Also check the links in the Indexes section.


General

From the site: “The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States.” If you need any sort of US statistics, this is the place to start looking.

Islandica is now offering online editions of its print series. Please respect the copyright on these items.
The Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago has made some of their publications available online in .pdf format. Please also take note of the terms set with download and respect them.

Education

ERIC is a free database for education materials partly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.

Geography

The Alexandria Digial Library is a project of the University of California at Santa Barbara producing an online resource for geography

Literature

Literary Criticisms at the Internet Public Library, containing thousands of criticisms and is arranged by author name and titles.

Medieval Studies

The Online Medieval and Classical Library presents a range of medieval European texts: allegorical, Sagas, Arthurian, etc.

Philosophy

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is an open access encyclopedia and regularly updated.

Science

The National Science Digital Library is a project of the National Science Foundation to provide access to a wide range of high quality material and resources on science.
The Public Library of Science is an Open Access project which seeks to make scientific and medical information more freely available to scholars and the public.
Author David MacKay recently published a great book called Sustainable Energy - without the hot air that he has made available online IN FULL for FREE. You will need a pdf reader like Foxit or Adobe to read the book.
